Naturally, they all replied that it would be impossible. Then I asked them,

“If your family was held captive and (I named a celebrity with a reputation for violence) was to show up with a shotgun and tell you he would kill your entire family if you didn’t double your sales in three months, could you do it now?”

First, they sheepishly (I feel that adverb is most apt) admitted that, given that level of urgency and motivation, they could definitely double their sales, then they reported me to their bosses for being politically incorrect and “upsetting them”.

I fired the bank as a client – I don’t do business with clients who prefer low productivity to honesty.

Being Exposed and Challenged

Why did they immediately attack me?

Why release their pent up, festering, passive aggression?

Why not be grateful to realize that they could, indeed, double their sales? A producer would certainly not have responded in this manner. Here’s why:

1. The slothful sluggards had to immediately divert attention from the fact that their ineptitude and low productivity had been revealed, and that they would now be responsible, having admitted the possibility, for doubling their sales. That new level of production would mean they would have to confront issues in their lives, forego their weak excuses, change their behavior, and do uncomfortable things in order to get better results. And they wanted to avoid that at all costs. Tall trees catch the wind, and when a loser doesn’t like what he sees in the mirror, he smashes the mirror.
2. Anyone exposing a parasite for what he is becomes the enemy of the parasite. In spite of the fact that I was just doing my job, which was getting more production out of these so-called sales professionals, and that I was indeed helping them shift their paradigm in order for them to earn higher commissions, they chose to attack me. I was doing my job too well! They wanted to be motivated and congratulated, not exposed and challenged. I was putting the status quo in jeopardy.
3. Misdirection is used by magicians and politicians alike. Political correctness is the poisoned tip of the spears of socialism, statism, and collectivism. It is the tool of the mystics and the politicians.

The Same Amount of Work Could Be Done With Half the Employees

Years ago, I was a Work Study Officer in a government department, a job I grabbed to put some money in the bank after a nasty divorce.

I was ordered to conduct an organization and methods examination of a large typing pool, and the result of my work was my suggestion that half the bureaucrat typists be summarily fired, and that the same amount of work could be done with half the employees.

I was called into my boss’s office and told to withdraw my report immediately. After all, these people had families to feed – they were the friends and family of many of the people in the Work Study department, and they needed those jobs!

Three months later, I resigned, started my own business and never worked for a boss again. That was nearly twenty-three years ago.

Political correctness is what Ayn Rand refers to as “Collectivized Ethics” in her book, “The Virtue of Selfishness”, written in 1967, and more relevant today than ever before:

“Hence the appalling recklessness with which men propose, discuss and accept ‘humanitarian’ projects. ‘Medicare’ is an example of such a project. ‘Isn’t it desirable that the aged should have medical care in times of illness?’ Considered out of context, the answer would be: yes, it is desirable. And it is at this point that the mental processes of a collectivized brain are cut off; the rest is fog. The fog hides such facts as the enslavement and, therefore, the destruction of medical science, the regimentation and disintegration of all medical practice, and the sacrifice of the professional integrity, the freedom, the careers, the ambitions, the achievements, the happiness, the lives of the very men who are to provide that ‘desirable’ goal – the doctors.”

The 2012 Misdirection

Right now, many people are becoming enthralled with the new movie, “2012 – An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world”.

The 2012 doomsday belief suggests that the Mayans foretold the end of the world at this time and, since the world is ending, there is no need to continue counting days or making calendars past that point.

Think about it – isn’t it a lot easier to discuss the end of the world than taking responsibility for your daily life? Wouldn’t moochers and looters prefer to focus on something vague in the future, rather than admitting that they are failing miserably in the present? Misdirection.

The Ugly Truth For “Politically Correct”

The most dangerous people are the politically correct. They are the snakes and the back-biters, and they represent the majority of people today. They squirm in their seats when I mention the word, “loser”, because they know they’re losers. They bristle when I state the fact that we’re fat, not because we’re retaining water, not because of hormones or our metabolism, but because we won’t put the fork down.

The smokers seethe when I tell them they stink. And when I say that Obama is a socialist, they tremble with fear and indignation. I tell it like it is, and I don’t give a damn what anyone says or thinks. If they won’t rock the boat, I certainly will. Turkeys pretending to be eagles are no threat to real eagles.

The reason for being “politically correct” is to redistribute wealth from the producers and creators to the parasites and the lazy. It is to deflect responsibility and hide reality, and to allow the looters to steal with impunity. Be aware – Atlas will shrug, and is already doing so.

The REAL Reason for Being Politically Correct

However, when you offer an alternative to the popular status quo, suggest a substitute to mind-numbing mysticism, or present a different perspective, essentially questioning strongly held beliefs and established conditioning, you suddenly find yourself facing blank stares, passive aggression, or outright conflict.

Controversial, politically incorrect information is not usually well received. This, in spite of the fact that your information can potentially dramatically improve the quality of life of your reluctant target. There’s a reason for this, and it’s not your fault.

We all tend to seek out and select information to support our dominant beliefs and avoid pain. I thought three concepts would help illuminate what we’re up against when we follow that road less traveled and wish to share real treasure with the mediocre masses.

First, Cognitive Dissonance:

“Cognitive Dissonance normally occurs when a person perceives a logical inconsistency among his or her cognitions. This happens when one idea implies the opposite of another. For example, a belief in animal rights could be interpreted as inconsistent with eating meat or wearing fur. Noticing the contradiction would lead to dissonance, which could be experienced as anxiety, guilt, shame, anger, embarrassment, stress, and other negative emotional states.” – Wikipedia

Imagine the fellow who strongly believes, as he was taught, that he should always “Turn the other cheek”, and so he does, and as a result of his passivity, he finds himself continually bullied, so he feels anger at the obvious injustice.

Now he feels guilty because he’s angry. A double bind has resulted from his sacrificial conditioning; he’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.

Or he works hard, makes money, and then feels obliged, because of his conditioning, to submit to the extortion of his loafing relatives. Naturally, he resents this, so he feels guilty…

Final example: He believes money to be the root of all evil, so when he earns it, he feels guilty and self-sabotages to punish himself.

Second, Cognitive Distortion:

From Wikipedia:

“Cognitive distortions are exaggerated and irrational thoughts identified in cognitive therapy and its variants, which supposedly perpetuate certain psychological disorders. Eliminating these distortions and negative thought is said to improve mood and discourage maladies such as depression and chronic anxiety. The process of learning to refute these distortions is called “cognitive restructuring”.

Many cognitive distortions are also logical fallacies.

1. All-or-nothing thinking – Thinking of things in absolute terms, like “always”, “every”, “never”, and “there is no alternative”. Few aspects of human behavior are so absolute. All-or-nothing-thinking can contribute to depression.
2. Overgeneralization – Taking isolated cases and using them to make wide generalizations.
3. Mental filter – Focusing almost exclusively on certain, usually negative or upsetting, aspects of an event while ignoring other positive aspects. For example, focusing on a tiny imperfection in a piece of otherwise useful clothing.
4. Disqualifying the positive – Continually reemphasizing or “shooting down” positive experiences for arbitrary, ad hoc reasons.
5. Jumping to conclusions – Drawing conclusions (usually negative) from little (if any) evidence. Two specific subtypes are also identified:
6. * Mind reading – Assuming special knowledge of the intentions or thoughts of others.
   * Fortune telling – Exaggerating how things will turn out before they happen.
7. Magnification and minimization – Distorting aspects of a memory or situation through magnifying or minimizing them such that they no longer correspond to objective reality. In depressed clients, often the positive characteristics of other people are exaggerated and negative characteristics are understated. There is one subtype of magnification:
   * Catastrophizing – Focusing on the worst possible outcome, however unlikely, or thinking that a situation is unbearable or impossible when it is really just uncomfortable.
8. Emotional reasoning – Making decisions and arguments based on intuitions or personal feeling rather than an objective rationale and evidence.
9. Should statements – Patterns of thought which imply the way things “should” or “ought to be” rather than the actual situation the patient is faced with, or having rigid rules which the patient believes will “always apply” no matter what the circumstances are. Albert Ellis termed this “Musturbation”.
10. Labeling and mislabeling – Explaining behaviors or events, merely by naming them; related to overgeneralization. Rather than describing the specific behavior, a patient assigns a label to someone or themselves that implies absolute and unalterable terms. Mislabeling involves describing an event with language that is highly colored and emotionally loaded.
11. Personalization – Attribution of personal responsibility (or causal role) for events over which the patient has no control. This pattern is also applied to other in the attribution of blame.”

Where People Are Really Coming From

When you read the above, it makes it easier to see where people are really coming from, instead of taking their “rejection” personally. It explains why otherwise intelligent people join cults, vote for narcissistic socialists while claiming to be capitalists, and invest their money in ridiculous scams.

It reveals why most people prefer to be told what to do and what to think by those who do not have their best interests at heart, and why rational, proven solutions are rejected outright as “to good to be true”, “from the devil”, or “dishonest” – why someone would prefer to lose money in mutual funds and ripoffs instead of getting 12% per year, or buy silly franchises and lose a small fortune when they could make a lot more money with no cost or risk at all.

Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive therapy seeks to help the client overcome difficulties by identifying and changing dysfunctional thinking, behavior, and emotional responses. Depending on your situation and circumstances, unless you’re a psychologist or psychiatrist, you’re not going to make a huge change in the way the majority of people think. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, simply because most people seldom choose to change.

But there is a way to influence and help more people positively in their own best interests: education. Not the junk spewed out by teachers, preachers, politicians, many “financial planners”, banks, and “gurus”, but real, worthwhile education.

The Creation of Wealth

Trading and Bartering

I lived and worked in Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe) during the war there for the year of 1979 on a contract as a manager for Holiday Inns.

Serious sanctions imposed by South Africa and England were crippling the economy by design. (South Africa reaped what it sowed in due time, and England is in a worse state than the US – the chickens have come home to roost.)

We traded everything from foreign exchange to

I traded my house for a Ford Escort when I left. When I meet some of the “Trade and Barter Experts” here, I just chuckle quietly to myself – they have no idea how far this can, and does go.

An Attack on Capitalism

In an increasingly Collectivist, Statist society, in which real, law-abiding producers are drained to feed the sick, lame and lazy, their hard-earned taxes stolen to set up needle centers for drug addicts, parks for walking dogs, housing for those who have decided to “work the system” and illegal immigrants who claim “sanctuary”, and to feed those who choose not to work, business owners start to consider their alternatives.

Anyone who has read “Atlas Shrugged” knows the route we’re going. And they know the system is designed to empower the criminals and the collective, while undermining the creators, the thinkers, and the innovators.

The bigger the loser, the more the churches and government will do for him. It’s an attack on capitalism.

There are many organizations and groups who have a vested interest in keeping the unwashed masses dumb, hungry, short of money, unhealthy, desperate, tired, and uninformed.

Academic and financial institutions, drug companies, the media, politicians, teachers and preachers in many forms, and your own boss (if you’re unfortunate enough to have one) provide information that is carefully designed to deceive, undermine, and manipulate people in order to achieve specific goals.

Anyone who watches CNN or attends meetings by “gurus” knows this.

Education Disinformation

If I took the advice of my:

• Accountant,
• Bank,
• Local politician,
• Neighborhood preacher,
• “Financial planners,”
• “Business coaches,”
• And itinerant seminar leaders,

I would be an uninformed, poor, guilt-ridden, hopeless, desperate smoker, and probably even a follower of Obama.

Just like most other people. I would be:

• In debt,
• Confused,
• Worried,
• Politically correct,
• Passive aggressive,
• And concerned about saving whales.

But I’m not, because my education is not disinformation.

Education That Sets One Free

Penn and Teller, Fox News, and the writings of the likes of Ayn Rand, John Stossel, and Robert Kiyosaki all provide education that sets one free mentally and financially.

As adults, we are free to question whether or not we are being hoodwinked by the cults we were pushed into by well-meaning but deluded parents and friends, whether the myths we accept as true are, in fact, true, and whether the information by which our choices are made is helping us or hurting us.

Are You Blissfully Unaware?

I’m not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch of the imagination, but dispelling myths about the creation of wealth is my life work, and when money is involved, one faces the strongest efforts by the powers that be regarding conditioning and coercion.

The mystics of mind and muscle put a lot of effort into blindfolding the average man so that their extortion goes unnoticed and is even welcomed, so a lot of the “education” we buy into is carefully designed to control and enslave.

When is “Education” Really Disinformation?

Well, I am creating a new word: “Gimmetude”. This is an attitude of “Gimme (give to me) everything I want – I have an attitude of entitlement, I don’t want to work, I’m a lazy parasite, and I deserve what you work for.

”This pervasive attitude of entitlement comes as a severe a culture shock to anyone with a responsible work ethic, but we get used to seeing it, and we realize that it is good news for the producers and creators among us.

I have a relative who always whines about how much money her bosses and the owners of the business she works for are making, compared with her income as an employee. I respond, “Did you apply for that job and gratefully accept the salary they offered you, or were you forced to work for them? Is there anything to prevent you from starting your own business like they did? Can you quit and go get a better job? Without them, you wouldn’t have an income. They created the business, and they are entitled to any money they make – it‘s called Capitalism.”

But she doesn’t get it; she has a Gimmetude.

Winners Never Quit

We recently received an e-mail from a loser who had committed himself to achieving financial freedom in six months, using our JVWebPartners system. He didn’t manage six months, though – he quit, according to him, after a mere twelve hours of work. At the end of twelve hours, he didn’t ask for help, correction, or direction – he simply quit outright. TWELVE HOURS!

I couldn’t believe it, but those were his own words. If you look at his life, you will find he has always been a quitter, and that he always blames his tools, other people, the weather, the economy, or the mirror that shows him how pathetic he is. He has a Gimmetude.

His “commitment” and his honor and self-respect are worth nothing. Winners never quit.

Moving on to Newer And Better Things

People with a Gimmetude want everything for nothing, and they think they will prosper off the backs of the producers, but of course they don’t. Atlas always ends up shrugging them off, and they always end up blaming Atlas, who has moved on to new and better things.

We can either get upset at these slovenly slaves of state succor, socialism, and instant gratification, or we can celebrate the fact that they are here to make us rich. They want to work for minimum wage, so let them work for us.

Those with a commitment to success and production, the three percent of people, have less competition than ever before. That’s good news!

2010 is The Year of the Producers

It will be the year when people will get dramatically richer or poorer, FAST, and most people will get poorer.

Those with a Gimmetude will find themselves in deep trouble. We get paid for what we produce, not for attending seminars, playing the Cash Flow Game, or running our mouths.

Understand Creeping Socialism

The Person Behind the Opportunity

They say that when Venture Capitalists evaluate a new business to invest in, they evaluate the PERSON more than the opportunity or business.

They look for determination, because they know that is the key to success. When you get truly determined, you become unstoppable.

You will burn through any obstacle and attract a host of willing followers. Most people are looking for a strong leader. Someone once said,

“Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination.”

A Look At What Determination Is

Let’s look at this word, “Determination”. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “determination” as “the act of deciding definitely and firmly.”

It includes the word, “termination”, which, to me, implies the termination, or end of alternatives or options.

The word “Decide” has the Latin root “-cide” in it, meaning “to kill” – to kill off any recourse or modifications.

Set in stone – no turning back – no more dithering – no questions asked – burn the bridges, all-or-nothing, this is it, baby.

A Quitter Will Never Win

Ayn Rand  accomplished amazing triumphs in her life. Her motto was,

“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”

Sounds a bit like Mohammad Ali, doesn’t it? George Allen said,

“People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to.”

In my 23 years of business, I have never seen a truly determined person fail. I have seen many highly educated people with massive support and financial backing fail, however, due to lack of determination.

Quitters NEVER win. My daughter, Sacha, is the most determined person I know.

The Personal Success Plan

Finally, let me share with you what I learned from Paul J. Meyer, Founder, Success Motivation® International, Inc., when I got into business 23 years ago. This “Personal Success Plan” he created is burned into my brain. Note step number five.

With this level of determination, you cannot fail.

– those are the words of a determined winner, who never doubts the fact that she or he will conquer. And here’s the best part: determination can’t be

– it is simply CHOSEN – second-by-second, minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, day-by-day, until it becomes a habit and a natural way of living.

You win by being determined, and determined people are focused, consistent, congruent, and unstoppable.

How to Guarantee Your Success in Any Venture

“But, Robin, please! What does this have to do with Joint Ventures and business? Enough of the philosophy, already!”

As long as we’re dealing with people and money, philosophy is the basis on which we have to base our assumptions, predictions, choices, and evaluations.

This article may go a little way to illustrating my point.

What is Mysticism?

Ayn Rand writes,

“What is mysticism?

Mysticism is the acceptance of allegations without evidence or proof, either apart from or against the evidence of one’s senses and one’s reason. Mysticism is the claim to some non-sensory, non-rational, non-definable, non-identifiable means of knowledge, such as ‘instinct,’ ‘intuition,’ ‘revelation,’ or any form of ‘just knowing.’ Reason is the perception of reality, and rests on a single axiom: the Law of Identity. Mysticism is the claim to the perception of some other reality—other than the one in which we live—whose definition is only that it is not natural, it is supernatural, and is to be perceived by some form of unnatural or supernatural means.”

Mysticism to Conceal Real Motives

I was recently copied on an e-mail from a woman who intended to join the DollarMakers Club, but had problems understanding how to use PayPal. When it was resolved, she jumped to the confusion that Outlook Express had somehow caused an issue with her credit card not working, and this was her response:

“I am taking the mishap as a signal that perhaps my application to Dollarmakers was not meant to be at this time.”

When we use our ineptitude and normal daily frustrations to justify a change in mind, we’re using mysticism to conceal our real motives.

Red Flags

We all seek evidence to support our dominant beliefs – that’s quite normal. Many people use their children and families as excuses to disguise their real values and motives, but that’s usually easy to determine. When it comes to mysticism, however, a huge red flag goes up. But wait! Perhaps this is what the color red might really signify!  See what I mean? Ridiculous.

Easier to Choose Blame Then Taking Responsibility

“The universe is trying to tell me something” – amazing.

Visit your local Theosophical Society or Science of Mind meeting, and see how many successful business owners you find there, (apart from the ones running the meeting – they have a special agenda.)

It’s easier to blame your Spirit Guide, karma, numerology, or astronomy than to take responsibility for your own bad choices, laziness, or lack of commitment. I know – I have been involved in and studied many kinds of mystical organizations, and philosophies – they’re all basically the same.

Here’s The Bottom Line

If you want to do business with someone, you need to establish that you’re working with an adult who is

• sane,
• responsible,
• rational,
• objective,
• and mature.

Or be prepared to have them disguising their dishonesty and slothfulness with voodoo nonsense and justifications.

Work With Like-Minded People

For me, Capitalism and Objectivism work well. I suggest all business owners read “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand – it’s the best book I ever read. I am responsible for the circumstances I create and for my reaction to those circumstances. I don’t make excuses, mooch off others, or blame ethereal causes or other people for my choices. And I work with like-minded people.

Carefully evaluate the people with whom you propose to do business: what do they read and believe? Alternatively, leave it to your Spirit Guide to do the work for you, while you zone out with incense and nonsense. It’s easier, until you find yourself living under a bridge with other evolved beings.

How People Use Mysticism to Conceal Their Bad Choices

Parasites don’t like to be called parasites, any more than losers like to admit that they are incompetent and impotent mediocrities.

When a looter looks in a mirror and sees himself for what he really is, he breaks the mirror.

A Speech For Winners and Producers

Winners and producers, on the other hand, love the speech, “This is John Galt Speaking”, and wish it were longer.

If you want to know who people really are and what their philosophy is, get them to read this book, and this speech in particular.

Better to read the entire book, since it sets the correct context for the speech. Losers don’t even read, and if they do, they read junk, so they’re excused right at the outset.

Then, simply watch the reaction of the readers.The champions will love this book, re-read it, and embrace and promote the philosophy and Galt’s speech.

The One Thing Every Winner Should Read

It puts things into perspective, and helps the reader to see through the illusions, deceptions, and lies fed to us by the collectivist powers that be.

All the way home, I battled with this intrusive pain. It spoiled the ride home considerably.

Removing Splinters

Since most people don’t change, and freedom is my highest value, I have learned to pay the price to remove splinter people from my life, no matter who they are.

1. Generally, they’re negative parasites who don’t care about you (read “Atlas Shrugged” for a great example of this type of family member) or your welfare.
2. Often they’re jealous, resentful, bitter losers who blame you for their bad choices.
3. Many times, they’re passive aggressive.
4. In all cases, you’re better off without them.

You are Entitled to Joy

Ayn Rand said,

“Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values.”

Stop compromising, and stop sacrificing your own happiness; start living!  It’s your life, and you are entitled to joy, fulfillment and the fruit of your labor, in spite of what the mystics and socialists tell you.

Life is short, and you deserve the consequences of your choices. You are not obliged to pay for the bad choices that other people make. You’re not a slave to anyone, and people who care about you don’t hurt you. It has to work both ways – give and take; leeches, guilt-mongers, and passengers have to pay their way or get off the bus.

Sacrifice and Serving

When you summon the strength and resolve to kick the losers out of your life / remove the splinters, you will be amazed at how fast you can soar to unprecedented heights of success and peace of mind. Ayn Rand said,

“I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”

I encourage you to take your life back, and to break free from mental and emotional slavery. Ayn Rand again:

“It only stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.”

The best way to predict the future is to create it, so remove the splinters from your toes and your heart, get on your bike, and enjoy your journey through life. It’s not too late, and there’s a wonderful world out there, waiting for free people to enjoy it!

Nest Intrusion

Female European Cuckoos lay their eggs only in the nests of other bird species. The cuckoo egg usually closely resembles the eggs of the host bird (one of whose eggs is often removed by the cuckoo). The host may recognize the intruding egg and abandon the nest, or it may incubate and hatch the cuckoo egg.

Caring for Someone Else’s Babies

Shortly after hatching, the young European Cuckoo, using a scoop-like depression on its back, instinctively shoves over the edge of the nest any solid object that it contacts, including, of course, the eggs of the host bird! With the disappearance of their eggs and rightful offspring, the foster parents devote all of their care to the young cuckoo.

Frequently this is an extremely difficult task, since the cuckoo chick often grows much larger than the host adults long before it can care for itself. So you see a pair of small foster parents working very hard to keep up with the voracious appetite of an outsized young cuckoo – another bird’s young.

Socialism is Cuckoo!

Socialism tells us: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

So here we have the Cuckoo, laying her eggs in another bird’s nest, and having someone else raise her offspring, while her baby kills the offspring of the host bird! The producer (the host bird) does all the work, and ends up with nothing, while the parasite (Cuckoo) does no work and simply breeds more losers. Talk about the welfare state!

Here we have a clear, combined example of the perils of affirmative action, unions, collectivism, the dole, racism, statism, and multiculturalism! Scary!

The Perils of Socialized Government

Next time you hear people talking about socialized medicine, “giving back”, “sharing the wealth”, and raising the minimum wage, remember the Cuckoo. Socialism allows the government to steal your wealth and make you work for those who won’t take responsibility for their own lives. It forces you to sacrifice your family and quality of life for the leeches in our society. And it’s partner in crime, mysticism, simply reinforces this poisonous philosophy.

Ayn Rand said, in her wonderfully prophetic book, Atlas Shrugged, “I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”

You deserve the fruit of your labor;  don’t let some Cuckoo politician or witchdoctor steal it from you.

Socialism and Cuckoo Eggs: A Scary Parallel

Imagine an architect who meets with a builder/developer and a town planner. The developer wants to build a magnificent building. He says, “I have this feeling that I should build something – not sure exactly what it should look like, or what it would cost, or where I would find the money, but what do you think?”

To which the town planner replies, “Well, I guess we could find some space somewhere,  after all, it sounds like a noble cause – we’ll come up with a space, I’m sure…”

…and the architect pipes up, “Well, I don’t want to be too rigid, and the front of the building could look more or less like this, but I have a feeling it will just come together – I’ll check with my psychic…”

…Ridiculous, right?

Do You Have an Irrational Approach?

That’s how most people try to build wealth.

Architects, builders, and town planners are very specific, logical, and realistic about what they do. Engineers building a bridge don’t make decisions based on hope, feelings, fortune tellers, psychics, or mystical expectations. When you want to build a bridge from where to are to where you want to be, you had better understand that bridges can collapse if they are not built properly. There is time, cost, responsibility, and accountability  involved. Without work, persistence and perseverance, no building can be built, and nothing of any real value accomplished.

Your Philosophy is Your Foundation

The foundation on which you plan your future is your philosophy. If your wealth philosophy is wrong, you will end up like most other people – poor, frustrated, resentful, jealous, and bitter.

Rika and I rented a boat last week and spent three hours boating in Howe Sound. It was a wonderful experience. The boat was well prepared, maintained, and full of gas. We had life jackets, a whistle, food, water, a map, hats, sunscreen, and a cell phone with us. We took advice from the people who rented us the boat. We were well prepared for the trip, we knew where we wanted to go, and what we wanted to do, we paid for the boat hire and insurance, and it worked out great. We didn’t wander down to the water and try to cut down a tree with a penknife to build a raft to go boating. Success is not random or ethereal.

One of the biggest surprises I received in my life was while I was working on a BA Theology at a Bible College and at the same time doing a BA Psychology at university. To my horror, I discovered that I was involved in a cult. At that time, I still didn’t realize that cults take many forms – they are not only to be found in the realm of religion. The more I studied, the more I saw!

Multi-Level Marketing to Belong

For example, MLM can be described as a cult, which would explain this article that claims that the odds of winning from a single spin of the wheel in a game of roulette in Las Vegas is:

• 286 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as an Amway/Quixtar “distributor”
• 48 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Nu Skin “distributor”
• 22 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Melaleuca “distributor”

Could that explain why people will spend tens of thousands of dollars and years of their lives with no reward, just to “belong”?

What is a Cult?

Here is a good explanation. Read it and look at your life. You might be very surprised. In fact, once we understand group dynamics and conditioning, we realize that some families operate like cults, and that often, child and senior abuse is contingent on a cult-like relationship. Also, understanding cults explains why otherwise intelligent people will believe and do ridiculous things that make no sense to “outsiders” who can view the situation objectively and rationally.

Margaret Singer, Ph.D.  psychologist author of “Cults in Our Midst”, said:

“Deprogramming – that is, providing members with information about the cult and showing them how their own decision-making power had been taken away from them.”

Breaking Free

It’s hard to accept and realize that one is involved in a cult, but the price of freedom is acknowledging the bars on our cages and confronting our jailers and conditioning.

Without sufficient motivation and determination to break free, however, we might decide that the pain of escape from our comfortable prison is greater than the pleasure of freedom. People can react violently when they’re faced with the prospect that they might be hoodwinked, that their safety is imaginary, and that what they have believed and paid for for a long time is, in fact, a con job. But a small number do break free, and that’s whom this article is for.

I always recommend the book, “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, in the hopes that it will free some people in different areas of their lives, as it has me, particularly in the area of our philosophies about business, money, family, responsibility, guilt, altruism, mysticism, and freedom.

Are You Unknowingly Involved in a CULT?

If your business depends on the weather, the traffic, offshore competition, finding good people, or politicians, or if you sell your time, lack and risk are your constant shadows.

And if you have all your eggs in one basket,

• if your income depends on the whims of others to any extent,
• or if you rely on others or serve a limited geographic area,

shortage and fear follow you home at night.

Are You a Soldier or a General?

Many “businesses” are really simply prison cells, shackles, time vampires, and Swords of Damocles. If you own a franchise or if you are a self-employed salesperson posing as an entrepreneur, scarcity is a reality for you. Without scalability and replicability, you’re what Domenick Celentano, an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, calls an “Artisan Entrepreneur.” Or what I call and “Paid Slave” or “a Laborer with a New Lable” – not much different from being an employee, except that you work harder for less and take more risk. You can be a soldier or a general.  Entrepreneurs are generals.

Stephen Duke wrote:

“There are lots of ‘independent business owners,’ but few are actually ‘entrepreneurs.’ Most are skilled technicians or managers in their fields and they work IN their own business, but fewer still work ON their business. There is a difference.

Self-employment is on one end of the continuum and Entrepreneurship is on the opposite. The difference is what the individual actually does for the business: Are they simply doing what they were doing for the ‘Man’ before they started working for themselves? Or, are they working at building a “world class company” that does the things they once did for a living?

Don’t be delusional about self-employment, even if you are not working by yourself – it is still not entrepreneurial. One must really be working on building a company that is less egoistic and more centered around its stakeholders i.e. what’s in it for them, instead of what’s in it for me. When you understand this, you understand the difference between the self-employed business owner and the entrepreneur.”

Why I Use Joint Ventures

To move from scarcity and risk to abundance and peace of mind, I became a Joint Venture Broker 23 years ago.

There are many fish in the sea, if you set your business up that way. Threats fade away, and you can focus on building nets and working when you feel like it. Your Business: Abundance or Scarcity?

I was preparing for a camping trip

I was going preparing for a camping trip to Ponta Do Ouro in Mozambique in the summer of 1972. (Don’t go there now, unless you like the idea of landmines – you might lose more than a toe…) As I packed my VW minibus camper, I carried my snub-nosed .38 Astra Special revolver on a sleeping cushion. As I stepped up into the back door, the loaded gun slipped off the pillow, hit the bus’s floor, and went off. Since the windows and other doors were closed and a bullet was definitely fired, it can only have passed between me and the inside of the one door – a very small space – a close miss, if ever there was one. Stupid. I learned an important lesson and gained a renewed respect for guns.

I have met more conmen, shysters, and outright thieves in the past twelve years than I ever thought possible. And with governments fast going the way of outright socialism and banks and the taxman collaborating to put the squeeze on business owners, we live in an increasingly  dangerous business world. It’s time to grow up and realize that we are at risk, and that we need to limit our risk.

When I tell people to do business with no cost and no risk, I mean it.

I know a fellow with a giant ego and a small IQ who regularly sought to differ with me on this point. I have seen him lose a lot of money, since he doesn’t understand how to avoid risk and cost. If he did, he wouldn’t lose so much money in his harebrained schemes, or work with thieves. Knowing how business works, and understanding the odds, the risks, and the fact that there are a few dishonest people around, makes it necessary, if one wishes to get rich, to avoid risk and costs. And it’s easier than it seems.

How To Avoid Risks, Costs and some Dishonest People

1. Use leverage and existing resources instead of paying for new ones. Work strategically and don’t rely on any one source of income.
2. Pay for results, not promises.
3. Be VERY careful whom you associate / do business with. Remember that people can change for the worst – easily and quickly, so be prepared for that.
4. When you smell a rat, RUN. Cut bait. Delete. Immediately.
5. Test people in many ways to make sure they are still loyal and honest. Be a detective.
6. Don’t disclose the identities of your Joint Venture partners.
7. Triangulate deals – don’t sell your own products and services.
8. Align yourself with people who share your philosophy – don’t link up with mystics, socialists, environmentalists, or reverse racists.
9. Don’t trust government or work with government or their agents.
10. Operate with no overhead – lean and mean. Expect the best and prepare for the worst. Spread your income and diversify.

We’re not in business to feel important or to impress people

We’re in business to make the most possible after-tax profit, with the least cost, time, risk, and effort. The fact is that most “gurus” and “entrepreneurs” are not really entrepreneurs – they’re really just slick salesmen and pitchmen. (Anthony “Sully” Sullivan, the well-known “Pitchman”, says, “Life’s a pitch, and then you die.”)  Smart entrepreneurs understand that Joint Ventures and strategic alliances are the most sophisticated tools in business – they’re strategic, they employ leverage, and they are scalable. And they’re not based on ego, but rather on profit.

When we get our egos under control, we suddenly see new options opening up.

Look at the people who make the really big money, and you’ll find that they seldom sell their time, they actually prefer not to be on a stage unless they have no other option, and they evaluate business opportunities objectively and rationally. When we get our egos under control, we suddenly see new options opening up. But for that, we need to understand the back-end, leverage, and positioning.

Calvin Coolidge said, “Civilization and profit go hand in hand.” Most wanna-be business owners are simply broke, desperate, self-employed salespeople, whose arrogance is exceeded only by their ignorance, yet these are the very people who allow their egos to dictate their business choices.  A big fish is a small, rancid pond is only impressive those to even more pathetic and needy than he is.

“Robin, It’s about the Bottom Line”

The most successful businessman with whom I was ever privileged to work, partnered with me in my business and taught me a very important lesson. He said, “Robin, it’s all about the bottom line. If you maintain your integrity and sublimate your personal feelings and pride, your profits will soar.  There is always going to be someone richer and smarter than you are – don’t try to be a legend in your own lunchtime, don’t believe your own PR and BS, and focus on the bottom line.” He was a very wealthy man, one of the most humble, soft-spoken people around, and very strong and disciplined.

If you want to feel important, act in a pantomime, join a service or fraternal club and rise in the ranks to get a title, or teach kids. If you want to get rich, focus on the bottom line.

Follow the Leader, Wait for Me

Sheep have a strong instinct to follow the sheep in front of them. When one sheep decides to go somewhere, the rest of the flock usually follows, even if it is not a good “decision.” For example, sheep will follow each other to slaughter. If one sheep jumps over a cliff, the others are likely to follow. Even from birth, lambs are conditioned to follow the older members of the flock. This instinct is “hard-wired” into sheep. It’s not something they “think” about.

Safety in Numbers

Sheep are gregarious. They will usually stay together in a group while grazing. A sheep will become highly agitated if it is separated from the group. It is the banding together in large groups which protects sheep from predators which will go after the outliers in the flock.

Social Animals

Sheep are a very social animal. Animal behaviorists note that sheep require the presence of at least 4 or 5 sheep which when grazing together maintain a visual link to each other.

Flocking Together

Flocking instinct is strongest in the fine wool breeds, but exists in all sheep breeds, to some extent. It is the sheep’s flocking instinct that allows sheep herders to look after and move large numbers of sheep and lambs.

Flee, not Fight

Sheep are a prey animal. When they are faced with danger, their natural instinct is to flee not fight. Their strategy is to use avoidance and rapid flight to avoid being eaten.

Safety in Numbers

After fleeing, sheep will reform their group and look at the predator. They use their natural herding instinct to band together for safety. A sheep that is by itself is vulnerable to attack.

Never a Straight Line

Sheep tracks are never straight. The winding of trails allows sheep to observe their backside first with one eye, then the other. Sheep can spot dogs or other perceived forms of danger from 1,200 to 1,500 yards away.

Pain

Sheep have an amazing tolerance for pain. They do not show pain, because if they do, they will be more vulnerable to predators who look for those who are weak or injured.

Leaders are not sheep.

• They are eagles, not ducks.
• They take responsibility and control.
• They lead the pack.
• They fight for their rights, and make no apologies for their values, beliefs, or choices. They confront issues and tell it the way it is.
• They have no need for the endorsement of others and they refuse to work with sheep.

Eagles don’t flock. They don’t live in fear and compromise, and they don’t sacrifice themselves or allow themselves to be taken advantage of by predatory mystics, politicians, parasites, or bureaucrats.

If you wish to be a leader, adjust your philosophy, remove the sheep from your life, and learn from eagles. You can soar to unprecedented heights and enjoy a good lamb stew with mint sauce.

Are You a Sheep? Wanna Change?

1. I had been telling my audience to incentivize all earnings…
2. and to link every cent earned to five cents generated in profits.

I told them that paying someone a fixed salary was not just stupid, but dangerous to one’s financial health.

Here’s his story, which adequately makes my point:

He had employed a middle-aged man whom he met at his church, and for whom he “felt sorry”, to “give him another chance”, at an above-average salary. Lots of red flags right there, but I digress.

Naturally, this “grateful” fellow promised to be the best employee he had ever had, and he went to work.

The business generated a lot of profit from back-end income, Joint Ventures, investments, and the like, and an important part of the duties of this employee was follow-up.

What the business owner didn’t understand was that he was dealing with an employee whose highest priority was to keep his job, not to create additional profit for the business. And that’s where he had made his mistake.

Why the Employee Mentality is Poison to Your Balance Sheet

The employee went through the motions of calling, closing, following up, and providing information, and completed all the required control and time sheets, but he was simply doing a job -

• he had no passion for profit or understanding of business,
• and he didn’t understand why his employer might want to make so much more money – after all, didn’t he have enough already?

His was a collectivist, altruistic, mystical philosophy, which was why he had never made money himself, and that philosophy is like poison to any balance sheet.

The Results Speak for Themselves

When the employer started getting phone calls and letters from his Joint Venture partners, his downline, his suppliers, and his customers, he started to put two and two together. He found that many of his valued customers had moved to his competition, where they got better services, more information, and more value from people who actually benefited directly from their patronage.

This employee had a lackluster, mediocre attitude when his boss wasn’t around, and we have all been exposed to that.

He realized that his lost opportunities, missed sales, lost customers, and diminished transaction values had conservatively cost him ten times what he had paid the loser that he should never have hired for that job in the first place.

The Moral(s) to the Story

An employee:

• Does the least and expects the most.
• Tells you exactly what you want to hear, and, like a politician, will bend the rules and overlook anything in order to keep his or her job.
• If they don’t receive a significant piece of new business, sales, or profits that they are responsible for generating, why should they bother? Where’s the passion and commitment?
• Their real agenda is far from that of the entrepreneur. They have no vested interest in the success or growth of the business, and they are in fact paid slaves or mercenaries. They are not capitalists.
• They will leave you for $100 per month increase, and you will never be able to pay them enough to secure their loyalty or commitment.
• A disgruntled employee can sabotage your business and reputation, and use the courts to hurt you.
• There’s a thin line between love and hate, and you tend to give your employees lots of information which they can use against you when they feel like it.

Create Overlap

Smart entrepreneurs work on creating a vested interest for people with whom they work, which we call “Overlap”. They remove the risk from their own business and force their employees to take responsibility for their duties and choices through financial incentives and commissions. They fire salaried people and rehire them on a commission only basis – no base salary, no leverage on the company except their ability to perform and produce, and no place for hidden agendas.

Audit what is really going on while the cat is away.

• Take a good, hard look at your employees.

• They need prodding to breathe.
• They are the parasites, the leeches, the stone in your shoe.
• They are not in charge of their emotions or thoughts, tossed this way and that by the popular fads and fixes.
• They run with the herd, and are loyal only to comfort and instant gratification, much like animals.

The Prodders versus the ProdDEAD

Winners are loyal visionaries. They remember who helps them (and who hurts them.) They attract like-minded prodders into their lives. They tolerate the prodded only to the extent that they have to in order to accomplish their goals, but they have only disdain for those who choose to be victims instead of victors.

Winners are reliable and professional. They don’t compromise or sell out, and they create wealth, health, and happiness for the world. They are the prodders – the true champions – and they shrug off the vilification of the prodded who benefit from their creations yet attack them out of jealousy. They interpret PROD as:

They are goal-oriented, creative, and self-motivated.

Be the Prod

If you are a prodder, you will relate to this short article. My purpose is to remind you that you are not alone, and that soon, Atlas will Shrug, and you should strongly align yourself with other prodders to be well positioned for that exciting time. Tolerate the prodded for now – they are necessary for the moment. Galt’s Gulch is waiting. Be the prod – the producer.

Need Prodding?

In order to achieve a new situation in life, we have to remember that a mind once stretched will never return to its original dimensions, and that all meaningful change starts with a question.

We have to ask ourselves if the status quo in our lives is what we truly want, and if our present philosophy and world view is going to get us to where we honestly and deeply want to be.

We have to ask ourselves just:

• how free we really are,
• how free we want to be,
• and how our perceptions and beliefs will have to change in order to facilitate the new journey we wish to take.

Beware: We’re Programmed to Not Question

Because the seething herd of humanity is programmed to viciously ostracize those who question the feasibility, indeed the sanity, of blind faith and conformity, we have to summon the courage to ask these questions.

Anything that threatens the current, outdated beliefs of true believers who doggedly hold on to medieval myths, legends, and superstitions is quickly suppressed. You should be aware of this.

The outright rejection of logic and rational, independent thought is the hallmark of the established system of paid slavery, the oppression of freedom, and mass mind control by the media and the mystics, which are owned by banks and managed by their puppet politicians.

Beware:  We’re Programmed to Believe What We’re Taught

We believe what we have been taught to believe, not what we personally, independently  deducted from the facts all around us. We have been told lies to keep us bound, blind, tired, in debt, and afraid:

• “You have to risk a lot to make a lot.”
• “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
• “The root of all evil is money.”
• “You have to work hard for many years in order to be financially free.”
• “You don’t deserve to be rich.”
• “Keep up with the Jones.”
• “Serve your country.”
• “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
• “Self sacrifice is good. “
• “You need to be educated by the existing educational structure.”
• “Don’t question your leaders. We know what is best for you.”
• “Toe the line.”
• “The nail that stands up gets knocked down…”

Nonsense.

Question everything.

Krishnamurti said:

“All authority of any kind, especially in the field of thought and understanding, is the most destructive, evil thing. Leaders destroy the followers and followers destroy the leaders. You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple. You have to question everything that man has accepted as valuable, as necessary.”

Dependency, exploitation, and attachment are forms of slavery. Only parasites, sluggards, and masochists revel in slavery.

Question everything.

Don’t wait until you’re too old, too scared, and too weak to change. Question now.

Anyone who says, “Mine not to reason why; mine but to do and die” is already dead. Blind faith is not laudable – it’s stupid.

The Path to Freedom

The path to real freedom is not to be found in a cult or a college. Krishnamurti said:

“Most of us begin with certainty and as we grow older the certainty changes to uncertainty and we die with uncertainty. But if one begins with uncertainty, doubting, questioning, asking, demanding, with real doubt about man’s behavior, about all the religious rituals and their images and their symbols, then out of that doubt comes the clarity of certainty.”

Perhaps it’s your time to question, to rethink, and to redirect your life’s path.

Bucking the Herd Mentality

Across the road from the “hotel” was a broken down, empty old house, with a circular dam with five foot high, concrete walls, in ramshackle, deserted grounds. The good news was that the water supply had never been turned off!

Turning Poverty into Paradise

I got all my friends together and we decided that we would have a swimming pool. We cleaned and scrubbed that slimy, green dam for five days, drained it, and filled it with sparkling, cool water. It was a dream come true that hot summer. We were so excited, we could hardly contain ourselves.

The second Test average was a D! No one was happy.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed …

… and the professor told them that the socialism they wanted would ultimately fail, as they had, because the reward of success normally goes to those that work harder, but when government takes the reward away, few will try, so no one will succeed.

A relative of mine complained that she was paid a lousy salary and worked too hard while her bosses drove beamers and worked shorter hours. I asked her,

• “Were you forced to take the job, or did you apply for it and sell yourself at the interview?”
• “And did you agree to the salary you accepted, or were you forced?”
• “Can you resign any time you wish?”
• “If you were capable of doing your boss’s job, and qualified to do it, would you accept the higher salary and perks?
• “Do you think you are paid what you are worth TO the company, instead of what you WANT FROM the company?”
• “Who determines what you are paid, what qualifications you have, and what you are worth to a business? Isn’t it YOU?”
• “Are you free to work wherever you can get a job? Can you choose to start your own business?”
• “If you owned the business, would you pay people more than you had to?”
• “Is the purpose of business to pay employees whatever they want, or to make a profit?
• “What or who limits the amount of money you can earn in a free, capitalist society? Isn’t that YOU?”

The Destruction of Socialism

Karl Marx said:

Why You Earn What You Earn… And How to Earn More

He was righteously indignant at this insult. How could I compare him, a wise and respected street beggar, to a lowly prostitute?

My answer was:

“You offer me nothing, not to clean my shoes, get a ride on your bike, wash my car, or even carry this briefcase – you want my hard-earned money simply for being around. The prostitute at least offers me her body in exchange for money. She is a capitalist, and you are a parasite, and a socialist. I have respect for those who wish to offer something in return for my money. I have no respect for you.”

Ayn Rand’s words ring in my ears as I recollect this sidewalk chat:

”The actual performance of men in society is a constant, fierce, undefined struggle between the genius and the parasite…

The genius must have his freedom and his independence…

But he is crippled, hobbled, tied, held back constantly by the encroachments and restrictions of the parasites who get their unearned sustenance from him.”

Who is Ayn Rand?

In Alan Greenspan’s new book, “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World”, he mentions Ayn Rand six times, and declares that she is one of his greatest two teachers, and that she had the greatest impact on his philosophy. More here.

Respect Money and Value or Suffer the Consequences

As Canada and the United States both teeter on the brink of embracing socialist governments, I thought relating this little exchange on a wet, West Coast city street might be pertinent.

When you pander to the collectivists, there is a dire consequence. When you sell your soul for a bowl of soup, expect to reap what you sow. Understanding money and value will prevent a society, indeed a country, from selling itself into slavery.

I’ll end off with Ayn Rand:

What is “being RICH”?

When you respond to a need and make a referral, which you do every day, simply monetize the transaction and build in residual income wherever possible. And in many cases, the reciprocal value doesn’t have to be money – you can trade anything, as long as the one making the money reciprocates!

Here is an example of a JV:

We all have tons of books, CD’s, educational programs that we paid too much for at overpriced seminars, DVD’s, and audio programs at home, most of which we will never look at again, if we ever did in the first place. Yet we continue to buy new stuff.

How about twenty friends decided to have a little swap meet, get together for pizza, and swap their CD’s., etc? Everyone would get excellent value, at no cost!

Here’s another example:

Marketing is usually confused with selling. Using attraction marketing is a very powerful and effective way to get more customers. Instead of selling stuff, give stuff away! Especially when it doesn’t cost you anything!

Joint Venture with people who want to get their products and services into the market place by giving away their Gift Certificates for courses, consultations, cleanings, evaluations, samples, reports, conference calls, etc., and everyone wins.

Yet another example:

I was in England last week, and a good friend’s wife is very connected in Africa. I thought of another friend of mine in Canada who can almost certainly do business with her, so I e-mailed him to ask exactly what commissions I would receive if I connected him with my African connection. If I like the commission structure, I will send ONE e-mail to make the connection, sit back, and wait for a check. It’s that easy.

One more example:

JV’s can be TRIANGULATED: Those are the best, easiest, and most lucrative. Connect Tom and Peter, and collect an ongoing commission on any business they ever do, as with my African connection illustration above.

I had a fellow distribute someone else’s complimentary report to his database, and it earned me ten thousand dollars.

• Cost: nothing.

Be Creative!

You can trade anything in JV’s – people have traded my JV Broker Bootcamp tickets for beef, pots and pans, advertising, hotel rooms, you name it. You can be as creative as you like!

One caveat here:

You should only do business and set up Joint Ventures with good people whom you know, like and trust, or have been referred to you by trusted friends, hence the DollarMakers Joint Venture Club.

Online “JV’s” with anonymous people can hurt you and your reputation more than you can imagine.

Understanding the Concept of Joint Ventures

“Will Everything Be All Right?”

When interviewed on CNBC, Monday, March 9, 2009, here is Warren Buffet’s response when Terry in San Antonio, Texas, asks, “Will everything be all right?”:

“Fear is very contagious. You can get fearful in 5 minutes, but you don’t get confident in 5 minutes.

Everything will be all right.

We do have the greatest economic machine that man has ever created. We started with 4 million people back in 1790 and look where we’ve come. And it wasn’t because we were smarter than other people. It wasn’t because our land was more fertile or we had more minerals or our climate was more favorable. We had a system that worked. It unleashed the human potential.

It didn’t work every year. We had 6 ‘panics’ in the 19th century. In the 20th century we had the Great Depression, World Wars, all kinds of things. But we have a system – largely free market, rule of law, equality of opportunity – all of those things that cause the potential of humans to get unleashed. And we’re far from done.

Your kids will live better than mine. Your grandchildren will live better than your kids. There’s no question about that.

But the machine gets gummed up from time to time. If you take the bulk of those centuries, probably 15 years were bad years. But we go forward.”

Don’t Let Fear Drive You

Fear drives logic and rational thinking out of the house, and welcomes its friends, apathy, scarcity, depression, and the blind acceptance of socialism – anything to hide from personal responsibility and reality.

While the producers are proactively embracing the situation and finding solutions, scheming collectivists sell filthy, overpriced, flea-ridden, wet  blankets to the huddled morons who convince themselves and others that the end is nigh.

Opportunity is Waiting at Your Disposal

Warren Buffet’s Response to the Question, “Will Everything Be All Right?”

Alan Greenspan says in his latest book that Ayn Rand has been the most important influence on his philosophy, and his philosophy drives his decisions. There are only two kinds of decisions: Those based on emotion, and those based on fact or rational objectivity.

One of the most important quotes you will ever read:

“An emotion is an automatic response, an automatic effect of man’s value premises. An effect, not a cause.

“There is no necessary clash, no dichotomy between man’s reason and his emotions—provided he observes their proper relationship.

“A rational man knows—or makes it a point to discover—the source of his emotions, the basic premises from which they come; if his premises are wrong, he corrects them.

“He never acts on emotions for which he cannot account, the meaning of which he does not understand.

“In appraising a situation, he knows why he reacts as he does and whether he is right. He has no inner conflicts, his mind and his emotions are integrated, his consciousness is in perfect harmony. His emotions are not his enemies, they are his means of enjoying life. But they are not his guide; the guide is his mind.

“This relationship cannot be reversed, however. If a man takes his emotions as the cause and his mind as their passive effect, if he is guided by his emotions and uses his mind only to rationalize or justify them somehow—then he is acting immorally, he is condemning himself to misery, failure, defeat, and he will achieve nothing but destruction—his own and that of others.” ~ Ayn Rand.

Use this Litmus Test

When your business decisions are driven by need, fear, arrogance, pride, greed, envy, or revenge, they are emotional and irrational.  We have all compromised our values and overlooked important red flags to make a buck.

The result of compromise is guilt, and guilt causes self-sabotage. In other words, you will lose a lot more than you gain. Ayn Rand:

“A chronic lack of pleasure, of any enjoyable, rewarding or stimulating experiences, produces a slow, gradual, day-by-day erosion of man’s emotional vitality, which he may ignore or repress, but which is recorded by the relentless computer of his subconscious mechanism that registers an ebbing flow, then a trickle, then a few last drops of fuel–until the day when his inner motor stops and he wonders desperately why he has no desire to go on, unable to find any definable cause of his hopeless, chronic sense of exhaustion.”

What “Being in Harmony” Means

When you do business according to your philosophy and remain true to your values and philosophy, you’ll be happy and you’ll get rich, as long as you have the right philosophy.

When your philosophy is one of collectivism or mysticism, your business decisions will be flawed, and they will undermine your business.

“The verdict you pronounce upon the source of your livelihood is the verdict you pronounce upon your life.” ~ Ayn Rand.

When business owners sell their souls for money, they start to become conflicted about money. So they start projecting their dishonesty and condemning the very purpose of their business:

“Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper’s bell of an approaching looter.”  ~ Ayn Rand

What Makes Good Business Decisions

Good business decisions are the result of careful, level-headed thought. Ayn Rand again:

“Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think.”

Choose your philosophy very carefully, if you want to succeed in business. You have to learn to say “No”, even when it costs you money. The more defined and sophisticated your philosophy, the more selective you will become, and the more success you will enjoy.

Try This Analogy

A good analogy is a cheap watch versus an expensive watch. When you buy an expensive watch, you make sure that the person working on or servicing it is well qualified and licensed or authorized to do so. You don’t take your Rolex Presidential to someone who is not an authorized Rolex dealer, any more than you would take your Rolls Royce to a backyard mechanic.

Your business is a reflection of YOU. Who you are, your values, your philosophy – everything that you are is reflected in the way you do business.

Understanding Cause & Effect in Business

Every decision has ripple effects and long-term consequences, so it is important to think about the base and foundation of your business decisions and to determine to disciple yourself to live strictly according to your objective philosophy.

Compromise and concession are the cancer that kills businesses.
